Our wedding anniversary happens to land on the lucky 13th of July, and we like to do a little 2 or 3 night trip to celebrate! The past two years we have gone to Chattanooga, and we wanted to try something new (and maybe a little less hot). We headed up to the horse capital of Kentucky for a little staycation!

We honestly had no agenda other than to visit the Keeneland race track and explore the town. We dropped Dolly off at my parents' house and drove the three hours to Lexington.

I booked us at The Manchester, which is a boutique hotel in the bourbon district. The decor was absolutely exquisite throughout. Honestly, I may never stay at an airbnb after this trip!

Downstairs in the lobby they had a gorgeous bar where you could drop by for cocktails. The tile detail! I'm already plotting where in my house I can do tile like this.

We got there around mid afternoon on Friday and I had made evening reservations at the rooftop bar, Lost Palm which has a 1960's south Florida vibe, tiki bar, and a down under tropical menu made for sharing. We got a bunch of dishes to share, but our favorites were the Chicken Tinga Tacos and Tuna Ceviche.

On Saturday, we got off to a rocky start when our car wouldn't start and the valet had to jump it. We eventually made it to Keeneland, where we got to watch the jockey's training! If you get there early in the morning, you can grab breakfast at the Keeneland Track Kitchen and post up to watch the training for a few hours. Make sure to google the times because they can change.

Surprisingly, the best food that we ate on this entire trip was the street corn pizza and craft root beers at Pies and Pints. This has got to be the tastiest pizza I have eaten outside of Italy. We actually came back Sunday and got it again, thats how good it was! Definitely give the street corn pizza a try! It has tajin on it, need I say more?

We swung by Old School Coffee which is a coffee shop in an old converted public school, originally built in 1881, it now houses businesses! Then we spent a few hours back at our hotel relaxing and reading before dinner.

Kyle and I both love trying Italian restaurants when we travel, and honestly, this one was a disappointment. We tried ItalX and maybe we just ordered the wrong thing? But everything we tried was pretty mediocre (at least, for the price point). In case you want to know what to avoid, we got Polpette Cacio E Uova, Cacio e Pepe, and Gemelli Bolognese.
