Vase with yellow flowers on a table, floral TV art, wooden dresser, ornate mirror, and patterned rug in a cozy living room.

Sure, you could spend over $1,000 for the Samsung Frame TV, but you could also recreate the look for under $50 and a couple of hours! I made a TV frame in the primary bedroom and loved it so much I decided to recreate it for the living room. This version is a little bit easier than the version I did upstairs, but it does require that your TV have a small bezel (this is the black frame around the screen). If your TV doesn't have that, you can follow my other tutorial here.

I love this decorative trim!

Supply List:

  1. Wooden trim of choice (I used this chair rail). Measure the perimeter of the television to determine the length of trim needed.

  2. Wood stain or paint. I used ipswitch pine by Varathane

  3. Stain rag or paint brush

  4. Corner braces (but don't use the screw that came with it)

  5. 16 screws that are short enough that they won't poke through the trim. I used 1/2 inch, thread size 6

  6. Wood glue

  7. Command strips

  8. Miter Saw (you can also use a miter box and hand saw)

  9. Drill*

  10. Screwdriver, electric screwdriver, or impact driver

*you will need a drill to make a hole if your TV's remote censor is on the bezel*

Tutorial

Measure the diameter of your TV on the screen ONLY. Don't include the bezel in this measurement (the bezel is the black frame around the screen). You should have measurement A (the height) and measurement B (the width of the TV).

With your miter saw or miter box, cut your first piece of trim to a 45 angle so that the top of the trim is longer than the bottom. From the shorter/bottom end of the 45-angle trim, measure and mark measurement A. Cut the other side of the trim so that the shorter end is measurement A. I find it helps to look at a picture frame for reference to see how the corners meet together.

Repeat the cut so that you have 2 pieces that are measurement A and 2 that are measurement B. Hold the trim up to your TV to make sure that the cuts are correct!

Gloved hands apply stain to a carved wooden plank with floral patterns. The background is light beige siding.
Make sure to wear disposable gloves

Stain/paint the trim in your preferred color. Wait an hour or two until it is dry. **stain rags can self combust so make sure to lay them flat to dry outside with a weight on it and then throw away when dry*

Now we are going to connect the 4 pieces of trim. Lay the trim upside down and use wood glue on the first corner. Lay the bracket on top of the corner and secure with the four screws. You shouldn't need to pre-drill a hole first.

Repeat on all four corners.

Add 4-6 Velcro command strips to the bezel of your TV (command strip instructions recommend you leave the wall side up for a day for it to fully adhere before hanging anything). Attach the other half of the command strip to your TV frame. If the stain is not completely dry yet, the command strips will not stick. If you have any trouble getting them to adhere, add a dab of gorilla glue to the frame.

Hang your frame! Now, try using your remote to determine if your remote sensor is blocked. This is different for every TV. If the sensor is blocked by the frame, use your drill to make a small hole in front of the censor. (If you don't know where the sensor is, hold the remote 1 inch in front of the TV and move it around till you find the place where it works. That is where the censor is.)

If your TV does not have enough of a bezel to hang the command strip on, I have a tutorial for another way to make the frame. You can watch it here:

Enjoy! For the fun backgrounds, I just use Youtube! I like to search "vintage floral art" or "vintage __ (insert season) art."
