Why You Should Skip the Gift this Mother's Day

A few years ago, my Mom told that she didn't need more "stuff", and that what she really wanted from me was some quality time. Since then we've done DIY projects, antiquing days, book store trips, museums, and botanical gardens, among other things! If your mom already has all the candles, mugs, and picture frames she needs this year, instead of buying something, create something — memories, laughter, connection.
Here are three thoughtful ways to spend time with your mom that she'll remember long after the holiday has passed:

1. Host a Crafternoon: Pick up a craft kit or DIY supplies — it could be anything from candle-making to watercolor painting to simple clay creations. Set the table, turn on her favorite music, and enjoy some hands-on fun. Add snacks, music, and maybe a glass of wine to make it feel extra special. Bonus: you'll both end up with a handmade keepsake and a fun story to go with it.

2. Be Her DIY Buddy: Does your mom have a home project she’s been putting off? Offer to help! Whether it's painting a room, hanging wallpaper, updating a thrifted find or planting her favorite flowers, your help will mean the world to her. Plus, the time spent side by side will turn the project into something special. And, she'll be left with something she'll look at every day - and think of you.
3. Plan a Treasure Hunt: Spend the day together browsing her favorite antique store, thrift shop, flea market, or even a quirky mall. Let her lead the way and explore every nook. Treat her to lunch and make it an adventure. She’ll love the time with you even more than any item she finds.

Need help getting started? I made a downloadable PDF with suggested itineraries for all three experiences, plus an extra one you can fill in yourself to plan your own adventure. Click here to download them and make your Mother's Day even more special
If you end up doing one of these (or something totally unique), tag me or send me a message and tell me about it! I’d love to hear how you made the day special!
xoxo,
Melissa
